Snorkel Gear & Boogie Board Rental – The Maui Dive Shop

            Website - Maui Dive Shop

One of the best things about Maui is you can snorkel right off the beach. And when conditions aren’t good for snorkeling, even the small waves make boogie boarding a heck of a lot of fun. There’s lots of reef & great snorkel sites surrounding Maui, so you don’t need a boat to there. However taking boat rides in Maui is a lot of fun too.

Their corporate location is the largest & I think the best location. They have a large supply of gear. They’re about 10 – 15 min. north of the Kihei Surfside Condos and about 20 – 30 min north of the Maui Prince. The one at Kamaole is about 5 min north of the Kihei Surfside and the Wailea location is about 5 – 7 min south of the Kihei Surfside and about 5 – 7 min north of the Maui Prince. We know the corporate location is the furthest away, but we only have to go there once to pick the stuff up and once to drop it off. Besides we kinda like just driving through town and seeing the sights.

Boat Tours – Maui Charters on “The Four Winds II”.

Website - Four Winds II -  by Maui Charters

One of the best boat tours to one of the best snorkel/dive sites in Maui is with Maui Charters on “The Four Winds II”. Take the morning (best time to snorkel/dive) trip to Molokini Crater. If you’ve never dived before but you want to get your feet wet, so to speak, try Snuba. It’s fun & lasts about 30 min. & you can go down to about 20ft. The crew on the Four Winds are top notch and make it a fun experience. They service breakfast & grill chicken & burgers for lunch. And it’s an open bar! And Molokini Crater is truly a magical place.

Best Place for Inexpensive Gifts – Kihei Kalama Village

It’s about 3 -5 min. north of Surfside on the mauka (mountain)side of the road. It’s across from Kalama Park and the Big Whale Statue.

Best Place for Breakfast - Kihei Café

Just up to the end of block south of Kalama Village. Breakfast Burritos are around $5 - $6 and are so big 2 people can split. They have omelets and other stuff too. Lattes & Cappuccinos also.

Best Place to Get Groceries – Costco & Safeway & Longs Drugs

Costco is right outside the airport. And amazingly the prices are the same as the mainland. They have great steaks, lobster tails and all the rest. I try to make my list out ahead of time so I don’t over-buy.  For stuff like bread, milk, juice, that kind of stuff, go to Safeway in Kihei. It costs more than the mainland, so just try to figure out how much you’ll need and not over-buy. Longs has food also but it’s not a full blown grocery store. They have bread, milk, juice, good local produce and really good prices on liquor. If you don’t have water shoes (reef shoes)  you can get them cheap there. Although we once had a friend with us and she waited ‘til she got to the island to get them, then we couldn’t find any place that had her size. You can get them in Target or Walmart also. BTW, there is a Walmart right outside the airport also.

Best Dinner Cruise – Maui Princess

And Our Maui Bible, The Best Guide Book Ever – “Maui Revealed”

Websites – You can get it either through Amazon.com or go to the publisher’s website for a list of sites to order it from. Or call your local book store to see if they have it stock.

We’ve been to Maui 4 or 5 times (I’m losing track) and this is the book we’ve lived by. It’s never done us wrong. It’s the best guide book I’ve ever read. That’s where we got most of our information from and having been to Maui so many times and gone to the places we’ve just recommended we can attest to this book being a must have!

I will supply you with the list of stuff I pack for the trip. You can take what you off it. I thought it might be helpful. It’s a good thing I have it on my computer so I can refer to each year. I’d forget have of what we need to bring.

Aloha Guys,

I’ll send you some links soon to some videos of Maui we put together.
